The Rio Sonora runs through the hill country of the north central part of the Mexcan state of Sonora draining into the Sea of Cortez. It is a remote region that is mostly arid, covered with mesquite, oaks, valleys of cottonwoods and sycamores, and cactus. I visited for several days in late September 2020. It's a low populated and rarely visited region where visiting feels like traveling back in time.

I live in a desert, the Sonora Desert in the southwest United States. It's dry but the Namib Desert in Namibia seems altogether dryer and more extreme. Moon Lanscape is near Swakopmund, Namibia. There are nearly no plants and in some stretches there is appears to be nothing at all. It is stark. It looks like the surface of the moon.

It is dry, suffering multiple recent years of drought. Water is pumped from underground to keep water holes alive.

We went for a drive from Cape Town south down the peninsula with plans to drive around False Bay and down. The drive is supposed to be lovely with great views but the thick fog or mist as they call it limted visibility. So we ate fish, calamari, and chips at Snoekies in Hout Bay. The occasional glimps of sea, rock, and mountain and the active fishing bay still provided textured details.
